About

Julie Mia Holmes is an artist residing in Yuin Country on the south coast of New South Wales. Deeply connected to the natural world, Julie draws inspiration from the overlooked and often unseen elements of nature—birds, insects, and the delicate understory of forests. Her artistic practice explores themes of renewal, resilience, and the interconnectedness of all living things.

Julie specialises in printmaking, working predominantly with linocut, monotype and etching techniques, alongside drawing and creating artist books. Her works transform fleeting moments of observation into intricate and contemplative pieces that honour the beauty and fragility of the environment. The natural world is both her subject and collaborator, with Julie often using materials and marks directly influenced by the landscape.

Julie’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) with Honours in Printmaking and Drawing from the Australian National University’s School of Art. Her artistic journey has seen her exhibit widely across Australia, with solo and group exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle, Adelaide, and Queenscliff. She has been recognised as a finalist in numerous prestigious awards, including the Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award, the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, the Peebles Print Prize, and the Basil Sellers Art Prize.
